Reyn Lehman, Owner, Head Trainer

The Heart of Harmony Horsemanship

Reyn has loved horses for as long as she can remember. When she was four years old she used to gallop through the house and yard on four legs, mastering various gaits and equine movements (which later proved very beneficial in understanding the dynamics of horse maneuvers). Her first pony, “Katy” (a registered Shetland Sawhorse) lived in the closet/stall and romped in the field of Reyn’s bedroom. Reyn took hunter jumper lessons at a local riding barn and competed in fun shows until the age of ten when her family moved to a four-acre farm in Mississippi and Reyn acquired her first “real” pony, Proper Partner.

Reyn’s journey in natural horsemanship started twelve years ago when Proper’s abusive background forced her to find a means of working with the seemingly uncontrollable pony. After exploring numerous horse training programs, Reyn was drawn to Parelli Natural Horsemanship because of its emphasis on building a natural relationship based on both respect and rapport. For eight years, she devoted herself to learning equine psychology and communication, and she was privileged to study under one of Parelli’s leading field professionals during the latter four throughout high school.

Reyn’s appreciation for music began as a child when she listened to her mother play the piano in the evenings after everyone else went to bed. In the same eight year time span, piano teacher, Sandra Iungerich, gave Reyn a strong foundation in theory, scales, chords and techniques and helped nurture her love of beautiful songs. Reyn was often torn between practicing her music lessons on the piano or practicing her horsemanship in the pasture.

After graduating from high school, Reyn put herself through four years of college by working part time as a sound designer/engineer for various local theatres. While developing her skills in the music industry and researching the general history of the natural horsemanship movement and the teachings of its founders, Reyn formulated a unique combination of musical terminology and horse training techniques. In 2014, by combining her passion for horses with her distinctly musical background, Reyn founded Harmony Horsemanship, LLC – a horse and horseman training company based on musical analogies. Her instructional guides, The Octave of Excellence™ and The TSTM Sequence™ provide a creative and systematic approach to the horsemanship journey.
